By the Dock Summer
Some families camped. Some families visited Disneyland. Other families traveled to South Dakota to see Mount Rushmore during summer vacation. Our family lived at the lake in Minnesota. A weekend stretched to a week, which became a month, and turned into spending three glorious months enjoying the lake life. We loved water skiing, floating on air mattresses, and seeing brilliant sunsets. (We try to forget battling those giant mosquitoes at night!)
Each morning, my sisters and I awoke and immediately dressed in our swimsuits. We spent the entire day on the dock, listening to music and reading what seemed like hundreds of books.
Stampin’ Up!’s By the Dock stamp set and coordinating dies bring back memories of those long, lazy days soaking up the sun and enjoying the water. I tried to recreate that scene with rubber stamps, ink, paper, and accessories.

I pulled together a few current Stampin’ Up! products to create this scene that takes me back to those idyllic Minnesota summers:

Beautiful World Card Tutorial
Stampin’ Up! Supplies:
STAMPS – Beautiful World (152994)
PAPER – Crumb Cake Card Stock (120953), Brass Foil (153057), World of Good Specialty Designer Series Paper (152491)
INK –Memento (132708)
OTHER – Layering Circles (151770), Stitched Shapes (152323), Cinnamon Cider In Color Ribbon (152482), Mini Glue Dots (103683), Stampin’ Dimensionals (104430), Paper Snips (103579), Die Cutting Machine
Cutting & Scoring:
Crumb Cake Card Stock – 8 ½” x 5 ½” – score and fold at 4 ¼”
Brass Foil – 5 ¼” x 4”, 2” x 4 ¾”, 3” x 3”
World of Good Specialty Designer Series Paper (map design) – 5” x 3¾”, 1 ¾” x 4 ½”, 3” x3”
Cinnamon Cider In Color Ribbon – 2 pieces at 5” each
Instructions:
Fold the Crumb Cake Card Stock in half.
Using Glue Dots or adhesive of choice, adhere the World of Good Specialty DSP pieces (map design) to the coordinating sized Brass Foil sheets.
Attach the smaller layer on top of the larger layer, positioning it on the left-hand side of the card.
Place a Glue Dot on each end of one of the pieces of Cinnamon Cider ribbon. Wrap the ribbon around the map/foil layers, adhering the Glue Dots to the back of the card about two-thirds of the way down the card.
Stamp the sentiment with Memento on the back side of the map design 3” x 3” DSP. Die cut with Stitched Shaped circle.
Die cut a scallop circle from the Brass Foil with the Layering Circles.
Using Glue Dots or adhesive of choice, layer the circle sentiment onto the foil.
Add Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back of the sentiment and pace it on the front of the card, in the lower right-hand corner, on top of the ribbon.
Adhere the piece to the Crumb Cake card base.
Slip the remaining ribbon under the ribbon on the card front. Create a faux bow by tying a knot. Trim with snips.

A Basset Hound Named Max
An old scrapbook page featuring our dog Max and our son.
Almost twenty years ago, a puppy we named Max joined our family. We felt lucky to have him with us for more than 10 years. He was oh so cute, but he could be oh so naughty! More than once, he stole food items off of the kitchen counter such as sticks of butter, loaves of bread, and even tomatoes. Weighing in at more than 50 pounds, he thought he was a lap dog! Max left us about 12 years ago, but we talk about him often.
So, I’m partial to any dog-related stamp set or Designer Series Paper or embellishments. I love Stampin’ Up!’s new Playful Pets Suite. (No worries if you’re a cat lover. Cats are represented in this set, as well!)

Everything about this suite is super cute! A fun feature of the Designer Series Paper and dies is that the dies not only cut the stamped dog image but also the images on the Designer Series Paper. You can see that I used the dog image from the paper on this card. The same holds true for the cat images. Remember, when you purchase the stamp set and dies together, you receive a 10 percent discount on the bundle.
I also embossed the Real Red card stock front of the card with the Subtles 3D Embossing Folder and added one of the Stitched Nested Labels.

Let’s talk about ink and what to use for your rubber stamping projects.
You want to get started rubber stamping but you don’t know where to start? Last week, I posted information about the basics of rubber stamps as well as a short video. See that post here.
Today, let’s talk ink.
Ink Choices
Choices abound in this category – from classic, dye-based ink available in an array of colors; to Memento, a general-purpose black ink; to Stazon, a permanent black ink; Versamark, a clear, watermarking ink; and craft ink.
Classic, Dye-Based Ink:
I recommend starting with a few coordinating colors of classic, dye-based ink. It absorbs into the card stock, dries more quickly than craft ink, and is acid free.
Stampin’ Up! Brights Ink Assortment
Stampin’ Up! offers full-size foam pads in fifty different colors of ink, so you have lots of choices. Be sure to purchase a refill with your pad so you’re able to reink your pad after a lot of stamping.

There’s also a smaller selection of mini ink pads called Stampin’ Spots. These one-inch pads are available in eight colors. They’re perfect for travel, easy to store, and great for use with the Stamparatus.

Stampin’ Up! also sells uninked Stampin’ spots, allowing you to create your own mini pads with refills.

Brand-new pads are quite fresh, meaning they have a lot of ink. So, a light touch is important. When inking your stamp, it only needs a tap-tap-tap on top of the pad to apply ink. Don’t feel you have to press hard to get good coverage. If you find you have ink marks on the edges of your acrylic blocks, you’ll know you’ve applied too much pressure.
These pads have a unique design that stores the foam pad upside down so the ink stays at the top of the pad. Stamps inked with classic ink clean easily. Just use Stampin’ Up!’s Simply Shammy or the Stampin’ Scrub with the stamp cleaner.
Memento Black Ink:
This is a good basic black ink pad. I find myself grabbing for this pad if I need a black. It’s a perfect water-based ink to use when coloring with Stampin’ Blends, Stampin’ Up’s alcohol markers. It’s a nice, all-purpose black ink. Pads are available in Stampin’ Up!’s catalog and online store as well as refills.

Stazon:
Stazon is a quick-drying permanent ink. Stampin’ Up! offers this in both Jet Black and Saddlebrown. This permanent ink is perfect when used with watercolor techniques (your image won’t “run”) and nonporous surfaces like vellum and window sheets. Stampin’ Up! offers a Stazon refill as well as a Stazon cleaner.

Versamark:
This ink helps you create a tone-on-tone effect on colored paper or a watermark image. Use this pad if you’re planning to heat emboss any of your images. A pad and a refill are both available from Stampin’ Up!.

Craft Stampin’ Pad:
Stampin’ Up! offers this permanent ink in white. The pad comes uninked and you add the refill before you start stamping. Images stamped with the craft ink often need a longer drying time. Or, heat set with the Heat Tool.

Treat Favor
Headed to a party? Give this cute 4th of July treat to a party hostess. Or make a bunch for your own party guests. I decorated one of Stampin’ Up!’s Clear Tiny Treat Boxes and filled them with holiday themed jelly beans.
These 2 x 2 Clear Acetate Boxes make perfect receptacles for a variety of treats. I used the same supplies for this package as the card. I added the Misty Moonlight In Color Ribbon to top off the package.
