It’s hard to believe 2023 is just around the corner! Let’s celebrate with some new year cards.
I don’t send a lot of new year cards. But I like to have them on hand as last-minute replies to Christmas cards received and to use as thank-you notes. Stampin’ Up!’s Brightest Glow stamp set has the perfect “Happy New Year” sentiment.
I created three different cards with that same sentiment — two on this post and one last week. Click here to see the other design that uses the Cracker & Treat Box Dies and the Split Card Texture Dies. The Brightest Glow stamp set is currently available in Stampin’ Up!’s July-December 2022 Mini Catalog. Buy it now with the Labels Aglow Dies as a bundle and save 10 percent. Just a note: It will be carrying over and available next year.
About the Rays of Light Card
The card featured at the top of the post uses the Rays of Light stamp embossed with gold heat embossing as the background.
Very Vanilla card stock measuring 3 1/4″ x 4 1/2″ embossed in gold with Rays of Light
Black card stock measures 3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″
Very Vanilla card stock measuring 5 1/4″ x 4″ embossed with Timeworn Type 3D Embossing Folder
Sentiment heat embossed with gold and die cut with circle from Labels Aglow Dies
The card below uses some brand-new product that will be available beginning January 5, 2023, in Stampin’ Up!’s January-April 2023 Mini Catalog. The Alphabet A’ La Mode Dies include dies for a full alphabet and numbers. These are an exciting addition to the paper crafting product line up.
Be sure to watch the video to hear a discussion of these handmade new year cards. I just love the look of the gold heat embossing combined with the Gold Foil Sheets and black card stock.

Cracker Box for New Years
New Year’s Eve crackers are a popular party favor. Just like Christmas crackers, they’re decorated tubes filled with toys, trinkets, candy, confetti, and many times, tissue paper crowns. According to Google, the tradition of Christmas crackers began around the mid-1840s in the United Kingdom by a man named Tom Smith. He inserted love messages into the wrappers, similar to fortune cookies.
I started with a 6 x 6 sheet of Designer Series Paper and cut the entire die. But I used just one section to create the new year card for this blog hop. From this one die cut, you could make six cards!
You might be wondering what you would do with a new year card. I love to have some on hand to send after Christmas either as thank you notes or in reply to other cards I’ve received throughout the season.
Here’s how this card comes together:
Very Vanilla Thick Cardstock Base
Gold Foil layer measures 5 7/8″ x 5 3/8″
5 1/4″ x 4″ Very Vanilla Cardstock die cut with the Split Card Textures Dies
Heat embossed sentiment (Brightest Glow stamp set from the July-December 2022 Mini Catalog)
Gold Simply Elegant Trim
Champagne Rhinestone Jewels
I hope you enjoyed today’s project. Be sure to visit all of the other blogs on the hop. Leave a comment with the hashtag #stampitcontest. You could win a Cozy & Bright Card Kit.
This is one of those projects I make each year: a desktop calendar. It’s fun to change the patterned paper and designs and to add a special quote or image.
The DIY desktop calendars with Post It Note pads are easy to create and to personalize. From co-workers to relatives to hostesses and bridge group buddies, these homemade calendars make great gifts and stocking stuffers for everyone.
2023 Desktop Calendar Samples
The calendar featured at the top of this post offers a sneak peek of Designer Series Paper you can earn free during the upcoming SaleABration promotion in January and February of 2023. I paired the Dandy Designs 12 x 12 Designer Series Paper with a sentiment from the Season of Chic stamp set (available in Stampiin’ Up!’s Annual Catalog) and the Something Fancy Dies (soon available in the January-April 2023 Mini Catalog).
The above calendar uses patterns from the Butterfly Kisses 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper (Stampin’ Up!’s Annual Catalog) and a butterfly die cut from the Brilliant Wings Dies (also Annual Catalog).
