Here I am, snuggled under a brand-new warm and colorful quilt I was given by a good friend who has a gift for quilting. For those of you familiar with Stampin’ Up!, you might recognize the fabric. A few years ago, SU! Sold the fabric, and creative crafters made wonderful items from the fabric that coordinates with all of our ink, paper, and embellishment colors. When the fabric retired a couple of years ago, I sent a few boxes to a friend who I knew would appreciate it. (I can create handmade greeting cards, but I definitely cannot sew nor quilt.)
But there’s way more to this story than the colorful blocks that reflect what I love about Stampin’ Up! This quilt has been in the works for about a year, created by my friend who is battling non-Hodgkin lymphoma. She’s been through several remissions, many rounds of chemotherapy, and a drug trial or two. But that darned cancer keeps returning and growing. Through it all, she’d venture into her sewing room (when she felt well enough) to work on this project for me. And, I love it!
She faced a deadline when I told her I would be having hip replacement surgery in April. She became determined to finish the project so I could have it while recuperating. And here it is, a very special gift. We are all blessed with our special talents, and I’m grateful she chose to share her talents with me.
Have a wonderful day!
Thanks for sharing this wonderful story, Kim. You have a wonderful friend who has wrapped you in love. Good luck and happy healing with your hip surgery.
Wendie, I love that “wrapped in love.” Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since we met. Hope to see you at convention.
