This month, we feature cards and projects with a Mother’s Day theme. Today, I share a handmade greeting card using the fractured card technique or faux shutter technique.
Mother’s Day Fractured Card Technique
There are several ways to accomplish this technique. I chose the simplest. Here are some basic measurements to get you started.
Basic Black cardstock base measuring 8 1/2 x 5 1/2, scored and folded at 4 1/5
Designer Series Paper measuring 5 1/4 x 4 (I used the retiring Delightfully Eclectic, but many other patterned papers work well)
Four cardstock strips matching your card base measuring 5 1/2 x 1/4
A Basic White square (I die cut mine with the Stylish Shapes Dies)
Sentiment and ink of choice (I used the “So Happy to Celebrate You from the Layering Leaves stamp set for the outside and the Happy Mother’s Day from Perennial Lavender for the inside. Flowers come from Petal Park stamp set.)
How to Video
Be sure to watch the video below. I offer step-by-step instructions for creating this handmade Mother’s Day card from my craft room in Mesa, Arizona.

Layering Leaves Thank You Card
For my project, I chose to use the Layering Leaves stamp set. (Find it on page 96 of Stampin’ Up!’s 2023-2024 Annual Catalog.) I just love the font styles delivered in this set. I paired the thank you sentiment (heat embossed with white embossing powder) with an fun and easy way to use Designer Series Paper that showcase flowers.
The card above features just one of the flower-themed pieces from the Inked Botanicals 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper (DSP). You can get four cards from one sheet of 6 x 6 DSP. You just need three pieces measuring 3 inches x 1 inch for each card. (Note: If you use DSP as a layer, you’ll also need another sheet. Or, you could use embossed card stock, similar to the card below.) Layer these pieces on a coordinating piece of card stock measuring 3 1/4 inches x 4 1/2 inches. Wrap a ribbon around this layer before attaching it to a piece of either card stock or DSP measuring 5 1/4 x 4. Then add this all to the card base.
For the card above, I chose a flower design from the Delightfully Eclectic 12 x 12 Designer Series Paper. The coordinating colors I used include Basic Black and Fresh Freesia.
Don’t you love how the DSP changes the whole look of the card? Imagine all of the great possibilities with Stampin’ Up!’s wide array of available patterned paper.

If you’re like me, you love Stampin’ Up!’s coordination. Not only the color coordination, but also how the stamp sets and dies and stamp sets and punches work so well together.
That’s why the Layering Leaves stamp set and Bough Punch appeal to me. They complement each other, and make crafting not only easy, but successful.
Layering Leaves Card Samples
In today’s post, I share handmade greeting card samples using the Layering Leaves stamp set and Bough Punch. The card featured at the top of the post uses the coordinating colors of Melon Mambo, Crushed Curry, and Night of Navy with Crumb Cake. I pulled the colors used in the Masterfully Made 12 x 12 Designer Series Paper. I love taking color inspiration from Stampin’ Up!’s gorgeous patterned papers.
Here are a few measurements to help you get started. Be sure to watch the video below to view step-by-step directions for putting this card together.

Masterfully Made DSP measuring 3/4″ x 3 3/4″

The above card uses the same elements, but in a different format.
And, here’s another one using heat embossing for the sentiment and the Nested Labels Dies.
