Amazing Silhouettes Emboss Resist Technique
Thanksgiving brings to mind fall and the changing foliage colors. (In Arizona, we see some changing foliage, but not as much as North Dakota and Minnesota where I grew up.) Today’s card uses Stampin’ Up!’s Amazing Silhouettes stamp set and introduces the Emboss Resist technique. A little sponging makes this tree come alive. Check out the how-to video below to watch how I created this handmade card.
Here are a few details of how this handmade card comes together:
Start with Shimmery White card stock measuring 2 1/2 inches by 5 1/4 inches.
Rub the Embossing Buddy along the paper to remove any static (Note: find this and other embossing tools–Embossing Additions Tool Kit–on page 49 of Stampin’ Up!’s July-December Mini Catalog.)
Ink the tree stamp from Amazing Silhouettes with Versarmark and stamp on the Shimmery White.
Pour White Embossing Powder on the image, tapping off the excess.
Heat with Heat Tool until shiny.
Use Sponge Daubers to gently apply desired ink colors. I used Cherry Cobbler and Crushed Curry. Wipe excess ink with a paper towel.
Afix this piece to a Crushed Curry piece measuring 5 1/4 inches by 2 5/8 inches.
Add sentiment of choice (I used greetings from the Art Gallery stamp set) and Linen Thread. Any sentiment works for this card including Happy Thanksgiving. You can also use this card design for October and November birthdays.
With Stampin’ Dimensionals, pop this panel up on a 5 1/4 inch x 4 inch Cherry Cobbler card stock embossed with the Timber 3D Embossing Folder.
Attach to Cherry Cobbler card base.
Add Champagne Rhinestone Jewels

Getting a new stamp set, bundle, or Designer Series Paper is exciting! It’s fun to rip into the package and start creating immediately. But oftentimes, you’re stumped. Just what are you going to do with the supplies you just purchased? Sometimes you head to Pinterest, and sometimes you use Google to help you find samples. Additionally, get other ideas by participating in a card swap.
That’s just one of the fun activities my team of Kim’s Paper Krafters participates in. (Click here to read about the great Starter Kit special and also discover how to become a member of my team.)
Eighteen people participated in our recent swap. The requirements: use current Stampin’ Up! product to create a holiday themed card. I made the card shown above. Be sure to watch the video at the end of this post to see the other seventeen holiday card samples. You’ll get lots of inspiration for your holiday card making — from fun folds and more.
Other ingredients include Stampin’ Up!’s Festive Foils Designer Series Paper, Merry Melody 3D Embossing Folder, the Soft Succulent Open Weave Ribbon, and Champagne Rhinestone Basic Jewels. I chose a simple design to make 18 cards in preparation for the swap.

It’s fun to get off the beaten path of card making and try a fun fold, handmade greeting card. These are cards that have an unusual or unique fold or opening. There are certainly lots of options. Today, I’m showing you what’s called an “open panel” card. Be sure to watch the video below to see exactly how I create this card. In the video, I give the card dimensions, paper measurements, and demonstrate the two-step stamping technique.
Trimming the Tree Open Panel Card
This card features the Trimming the Tree Stamp Set and the Tree Trimmings Dies. Buy them as a bundle and save 10 percent. Look for the stamp set in Stampin’ Up!’s 2022-2023 Annual Catalog. It’s available through May 1, 2023. The coordinating die cuts, however, are a limited-time offering — available only through September 30, 2022. It’s part of the Perfect Partners promotion. See the chart below.
These dies offer fun and creative ways to not only die cut the tree but to also decorate the tree images — from bows to ornaments and more. I also used the Festive Foils Designer Series Paper.
