Pop-Up Box Birthday Card

My niece recently celebrated her 40th birthday, and I was invited to go on a girls’ trip. I wanted to create a fun and special card to help her celebrate. (Today’s card is similar to the one I gave her, but I wanted to recreate it to share with you.)

It’s been a long time since I made one of these very special designs. But they sure are fun! I used Stampin’ Up!’s Wildflower Birthday 12 x 12 Specialty Designer Series Paper as inspiration. Not only do the designs include festive colors, the DSP package offers two sheets of beautiful die cuts. Find this patterned paper in Stampin’ Up!’s January-April 2025 Mini Catalog.

What’s more: this design folds up and fits in one of Stampin’ Up!’s Medium White Envelopes.

Here’s a view from the top.

Measurements and Details

Here are a few measurements to help you get started. Be sure to watch the video below to help you make sense of the measurements.

  • Card stock measuring 8 1/2 x 5 1/2. Score at 2, 4, 6, and 8.
  • Burnish all folds. With snips, cut away the small piece on the short side. (See video.)
  • Designer Series Paper for the bottom outside: four pieces measuring 1 3/4 x 4
  • Designer Series Paper for the top: four pieces measuring 1 3/4 x 2
  • Same card stock color measuring 1 x 3, score at 1/2 inch on each side and cut down the middle to make two pieces measuring 1/2 x 3.
  • Window Sheet pieces measuring 1/2 x 1. You’ll need as many of these as the pop-up pieces you decide to include.
  • Die cuts
  • Sentiment and additional embellishments, if desired.

Here’s another sample using Stampin’ Up!’s Marbled Elegance Suite Collection.
